The Santa Clarita Storm

North Hills, California - The UPSL spring season began Saturday,  and it couldn't have been a better match up to start a season. Santa Clarita Storm faced off cross-valley rivals Valley United SC. When these two meet it is always filled with action-packed soccer and lost of controversy.
This game was no different In just the 10th minute newly signed returning striker Christian Esnal demonstrated why he was such an important addition for the Storm. Esnal received a beautiful pass from another newly signed returning player Zach Klindworth from midfield and turned on the ball and one-touch shot that found the back of the net giving the Storm an early lead.
Entertaining soccer for the next 20 minutes when Valley United was attacking and Storms defender and the attacking player bumped each other from the back and fell to the ground.  The official made a very controversial call awarding Valley United a penalty kick from the spot.
Storm all-star keeper Kyle Cunningham was between the pipes and made a player of the game save protecting his teams 1-0 lead.
Valley continued with the presser and on a throw-in, in the 35th minute from the 8-yard line in the Storms defensive third. It was Valley Uniteds  throw-in was right in the face of the goal and hit the heel of a Storm defender and caused an own goal and tieing the game and the first 45 minutes ended all even.
 The competitive game continued the second half the Storm with a slite edge on possession
It was the 55th minute of play and Storm's defender Pablo Nunez was carrying the ball through several Valley midfielders and from the right side  made a long perfect airborne pass the found the feet of midfielder Miguel Torres who trapped the ball moved to his right to maneuver around the keeper then shot and scored putting the Storm with the lead once again and what ended up being the winning goal in a 2-1 final . Storm had never stopped attacking in the last two minutes of play had near misses by Zach Klindwoth, Andres Zalamea, Brett Croft and Christian Esnal .
The Storm will now face Lionside FC next Saturday the 23rd of February at the Glendale Sports Complex in an 8:00 PM Kickoff.
